Jaya-Marie Thomas
Jaya-Marie Thomas is well on her way to becoming a print journalist. Her journey began at Secondary school where she published a piece about “Slavery”, in a creative writing book showcasing her Point of View. She loves media, film, and culture. Her ambition is to showcase black culture in ways that best represent Britain.
Jaya’s talent has already been validated by a UK wide writing competition, in which she earned a top five spot. She was only fifteen then. This encouraged her greatly and made her strive harder to get her viewpoint across. Jaya expanded her interest in media, film, and culture by learning French in her spare time, and has received several awards for excellent grasp of the language—developing a ‘proper’ French accent.
During college, Jaya took an interest in Media and Film studies to further her writing interests and inevitably chose Journalism as a career path. In today’s Britain, Jaya doesn’t expect to have racial challenges; but if she does, she’s confident that she can overcome them.
“I feel as though I’m putting myself in a position where I can write my thoughts and share or publish them in innovative ways, especially with the explosion of social media and Artificial intelligence (AI)—creating even more opportunities. I may even find my own publication someday. Before then, I would like to write for big newspaper corporations like The UK Guardian and New York Times newspapers.
This is the start of my journey…
